Current Issues with Dr. Phillips

Oct. 24, 2006

Last week the Orange and White reported about the tremendous generosity of the Temple football players in donating to the Fahmarr McElrathbey Trust Fund.

Bill Bradshaw, Director of Athletics at Temple University, wrote a letter expressing appreciation for the tremendous number of letters and emails he received from Clemson people.

I would like to share the letter from Bill Bradshaw thanking our people regarding the gift from Temple’s players. It obviously meant a great deal to their players and team.

Personally, I would like to also thank you for showing your appreciation and gratitude by taking the time to send messages. It indicates a great deal about being the Solid Orange spirit that exists at Clemson University.

Letter from Bill Bradshaw:

Oct. 16, 2006

Dr. Terry Don Phillips Director of Athletics Clemson University 100 Perimeter Road, PO Box 31 Clemson, SC

Dear Terry:

As you know, our Temple football team was so touched hearing about Ray Ray McElrathbey’s situation that they voted unanimously to donate their per diem to his fund before our October 12 game in Charlotte, NC.

You can imagine how proud I was, as Athletic Director, about our young men’s spontaneous decision, especially while in the midst of a particularly challenging season.

Just as heartwarming has been the genuine outpouring of gratitude from your Clemson family.

The E-mails and letters from your good people, expressing their sincere thanks, have brought a tear or two to even those that have grown cynical about terms like “sportsmanship, life values and sacrifice.”

Please express our gratitude to all your people for their very meaningful response.

From us to you — thanks.

Sincerely, Bill Bradshaw Director of Athletics
