Women’s Sprint Medley Highlights Action at Penn Relays

CLEMSON, S.C. – A small travel squad made its way from Clemson to historic Franklin Field for the 120th running of the Penn Relays in Philadelphia this weekend.

Highlighting Clemson’s action was a fourth-place women’s sprint medley relay. The team of Whitney Fountain, Marlena Wesh, Nia Fluker and Lindsey Bellaran combined to form a time of 3:49.69 late Friday evening. Only a 1992 featuring Olympic sprinter Kim Graham has been faster in school history.

The women’s distance medley relay finished 10th on Thursday in the collegiate section. The Tiger team of Bellaran, Brittany Pringley, Catherine Herring and Grace Barnett posted a time of 11:48.83 – No. 2 in program history. The men’s DMR had a time of 10:01.87 and was 12th.

The women’s 4×100 relay was 18th out of more than 100 teams, while the men suffered a disqualification for the second straight weekend. But the men’s sprint medley relay was 10th with a time of 3:24.88.

Individually, Michael Smith was 22nd out of 46 competitors in the men’s 400 hurdles after compiling a time of 53.50, while Jack Andritsch (9:27.11) was 17th in the collegiate steeplechase.

Clemson returns to action in Tallahassee, Fla., for the Seminole Twilight meet on Friday and Saturday, May 9-10.
