Tigers Down Florida State 4-3 in Men’s Tennis

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -Jarmaine Jenkins defeated Jeff Groslimond 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 in clinching the match and giving Clemson a 4-3 win over Florida State in a men’s Atlantic Coast Conference tennis match at Tallahassee, FL Sunday afternoon.

The Tigers won two of the three doubles matches and clinched the doubles point to start the contest. Florida State’s Mat Cloer and Rodrigo Laub, playing at the No. 1 position, defeated Nathan Thompson and Jarmaine Jenkins, 8-4. In No. 2 doubles, Damissa Robinson and Ash Misquith defeated Florida State’s Chris Westerhof and Jeff Groslimond by a score of 8-4. Sander Koning and Brett Twente of Clemson defeated the Seminole’s Alex Herrera and Chip Webb at the No. 3 position, 8-4.

Herrera defeated Clemson’s Micah Thompson in No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-4. The Tigers quickly regained the lead, as Koning defeated Florida State’s Webb at the No. 3 position, by scores of 6-1, 6-4.

Clemson extended its lead to two (3-1) as the Tigers’ John Boetsche defeated Heiner Tadault at number six singles 6-4, 6-4.

At the No. 1 position, sophomore Cloer got Florida State back into the match as he defeated N. Thompson, 6-2, 5-7, 6-4. Senior Laub tied the score at three at No. 5 singles, as he knocked off the Tigers’ Robinson by scores of 7-5, 6-3.

On Saturday, Clemson also defeated Florida A&M in a match played in Tallahassee.
