Stanley to Play in Arnold Palmer Invitational

March 14, 2007

Clemson, SC – Clemson freshman Kyle Stanley will play in this week’s Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by MasterCard at the Bay Hill Country Club in Orlando, FL. Stanley is just the fourth Clemson golfer to play in a PGA Tour event while still a member of the Clemson golf team, joining former Al-Americans, Kevin Johnson, Chris Patton and D.J. Trahan.

Stanley earned a spot in the tournament by winning the Southern Amateur in Birmingham, AL last summer. He has been Clemson’s top golfer this year with a 71.00 stroke average for five events, helping the Tigers to a number-six ranking in the latest Golf World Coaches Poll. Stanley is ranked 10th in the nation individually in the latest Sagarin rankings. He won the Aloha Purdue Invitational in Hawaii last Thanksgiving.

Stanley will start play in the event on Thursday at 9:49 AM at the first hole on the par 70 course that is 7,239 yards in length. He will play with John Mallinger and Doug LaBelle II.

Stanley will attempt to become just the second active Clemson golfer to make a cut in a PGA Tour event while still a member of the Tiger golf team. Kevin Johnson played in The Memorial during his senior year of 1989 and Trahan played in the 2001 Masters, his sophomore year at Clemson.

Stanley’s current Clemson teammate, Sam Saunders, played in the Bay Hill Invitational at the same course last year, but he was not yet a member of the Clemson golf team.
