Sarratt Named CPL Pitcher-of-the-Week for the Third Time in 2008

July 16, 2008

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Coastal Plain League announced Wednesday that Clemson righthander Justin Sarratt of Thomasville and Fayetteville’s Mike Nihsen were tabbed Rawlings Co-Pitchers of the Week for week six of action (July 7 – July 13).

Sarratt had another brilliant week, helping him earn his third CPL Pitcher of the Week honor on the 2008 season. Sarratt, a rising junior at Clemson, pitched a complete-game shutout of Gastonia in game one of a doubleheader on July 12, going seven innings, giving up just one hit and striking out nine. Numbers like those gave him a perfect 0.00 ERA and 1-0 record on the week. Overall, the 5-10, 195-pound righthander is 5-1 with a team-best 1.17 ERA for the HiToms. He has made six appearances and thrown two complete games – one a shutout in 46.1 innings pitched. In that time, he has only allowed seven runs, six earned, 25 hits, while walking just seven and striking out an impressive 47. Furthermore, opposing batters are just hitting just .161 against him.

The Coastal Plain League is the nation’s hottest summer collegiate baseball league, now in its twelfth season. Featuring 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia, the CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with wooden bats during the summer months. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts.
