Thompson Registers Double-Double as Tigers Pick up 20th Win At Cal., 70-63

Clemson, S.C. – Clemson women’s basketball (20-9, 11-6 ACC) picked up a road win in the penultimate game of the season, defeating California (17-13, 8-9 ACC), 70-63 at Haas Pavilion on Thursday night. The Tigers earned their 20th win of the season for the first time since 2018-19 and reached 11 ACC wins for the first time since the 1998-99 season.

Offensively, Clemson was led by senior forward Raven Thompson, who scored 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds en route to her first double-double on the season. Senior guard Mia Moore led the Tigers in points (21) while also racking up four rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Junior guard/forward Rusne Augustinaite finished the day with 15 points after scoring the game’s first three baskets. Senior guard Taylor Johnson-Matthews had 14 of her own. As a team, Clemson shot 52% from the field, marking the tenth time this season the Tigers have made at least half of their field goal attempts and the first time since Feb. 8 against Boston College.

The Golden Bears were led by Lulu Twidale (23 points) and Gisella Maul (18 points, eight rebounds).

THE WIN NOW MEANS….

  • Clemson has reached 20 wins for the first time since the 2018-19 season and the second time in 25 years (2000-01 season).
  • The Tigers have reached 11 conference wins for the first time in 27 years (1998-99 season).

HOW THE GAME WAS DECIDED
Augustinaite opened the scoring 46 seconds into the game, and Clemson would lead the rest of the way. The first quarter was punctuated by a layup from Johnson-Matthews at the buzzer to give the Tigers a 17-9 advantage. The second quarter was more of the same and the Tigers went into the locker room with a five-point advantage. An Augustinaite three-pointer opened up the second half to stretch the lead to eight, and Cal would not get back within one possession the rest of the night.
