Mills 18 Holes from Qualifying for Another PGA Tour Event

July 9, 2011

CLEMSON, SC – Clemson junior Corbin Mills is 18 holes away from qualifying for another 2012 PGA Tour event. The native of Easley won the United States Public Links Championship last week to gain a probable invitation to the 2012 Masters and now has a three shot lead entering the final round of the Players Amateur at Bluffton, SC. A victory in the Players Amateur at Belfair Plantation would give him an invitation to the Heritage in Hilton Head next April.

Mills had a four under par 68 on Saturday as he had a consistent day with five birdies and one bogey. He had birdies on three of the four par five holes and is now 11 under par on par five holes for the week. He played the 17th and 18th holes one under par on Saturday an improvement over Friday when he had bogeys on the last two holes. He has had rounds of 67-69-68 for his 204 score, 12 under par.

Mills has a three shot lead over Kalem Richardson of Australia, who has been in second place behind Mills after the last two rounds.

This is the fourth consecutive tournament stroke play round that Mills has had the lead at the conclusion of play. He has been in the lead all three days of the Players Amateur after winning the stroke play qualifier of the United States Public Links.

Crawford Reeves, Mills’ classmate and teammate at Clemson is in 34th place in the 74 player field with a 217 score, one over par.
