Clemson, SC – Clemson freshman Ben Martin has been named to the All-ACC Academic golf team. The team was announced on Thursday. Martin also was named to the All-ACC team for his on the course play and is one of five ACC golfers to make both teams this year.
Martin was a Dean’s List student during the 2006-07 academic year, his second year at Clemson, but his first as an active member of the team. On the course he had a 73.48 stroke average to rank second on the Clemson team behind Kyle Stanley. It was the sixth best stroke average by a Clemson freshman in history.
Martin’s best round of the year was a 64 at the Carpet Classic in Dalton, GA in the first tournament of the year. It was also the top round by a Clemson golfer last year and tied for the second round best round in Clemson history. He was ranked 64th in the final Golfweek/Sagarin computer ranking and is currently 74th on the Golfweek National Amateur rankings. He was also named to the Golf Coaches Association All-District III team for 2006-07.
Martin is the first golfer in Clemson history to make the All-ACC team and the All-ACC Academic team as a freshman. He was just the fourth freshman in Clemson history to make the All-ACC (on course) team. He joined Kyle Stanley with that distinction.
