Lady Tigers to Compete in Clemson Outdoor Invitational This Weekend

The Lady Tiger track & field team will compete in the Clemson Invitational on Saturday, April 8 at the Rock Norman Outdoor Complex. The event, which has been deemed a Solid Orange event, will begin at 10:00 AM with the women’s javelin and men’s hammer throw. Other schools that will be competing Saturday are The Citadel, East Carolina, Virginia Military Institute, Virginia Tech, and Western Carolina.

Clemson has four regional qualifiers so far this season and hopes to add to that total on Saturday. One of the qualifiers is Krystal Woods, and she will get things started in the javelin throw at 10:00. Woods’ best mark this season was 144’7″ at the Clemson Relays two weeks ago. Joining her in that event will be Rachel McLaurin and Rochelle Kokayko, who will be throwing the javelin for the first time in a Clemson uniform.

The second field event for the women will be the pole vault at 11:00 AM. Competing in that event for Clemson will be Beth Jordan, Helen Kirkland, and Krissy Thompson. The hammer throw competition is slated for 11:45 and will feature five Lady Tigers, including Kokayko, who surpassed a regional-qualifying standard last weekend at Georgia Tech. Joining her in that event are Allison Bradshaw, Della Clark, Catheryne Porter, and Woods.

The long jump is set for 1:00, with Renata Miyamoto, and Charmayne Smith set to compete for the Lady Tigers. In the discus throw at 1:30, Clemson’s entry list will consist of Clark, Porter, and Woods. Five Lady Tigers will enter the triple jump competition at 3:00, led by regional qualifier Miyamoto. Also in that event for Clemson are Barringer, Tonya Nwankwo, Michelle Rogers, and Smith.

Felicia Hawthorne, and Anni Korhonen are entered in the high jump for Clemson, which will start at 3:00. The final field event, the shot put, is set for 3:15 and will feature Bradshaw, Clark, and Porter from the Lady Tigers’ team.

The running events will begin with the 3000m steeplechase at 12:15. Ashley Robinson will compete for Clemson in that event. The Lady Tigers’ 4x100m team of Miyamoto, Randi Hinton, Elizabeth Embler and Casey Phillips will compete in the 1500m. Hardy, Hill, and Miyamoto are scheduled for the 100m hurdles at 1:40. The 400m dash is scheduled for 2:10 and that race will feature Ope Sobanjo from the Clemson team.

Hardy and Hinton will represent Clemson in the 100m dash, an event that will take place at 2:35. Six Lady Tigers are entered in the 800m, led by Thea Dix and Patrice McMillan. Also in that event are Caroline Rash. In the 400m hurdles, Hill, Sobanjo, and Tia Perry are scheduled for competition at 3:30. Hardy, Hinton, and Nwankwo will be in the 200m at 3:50.

Jenny Barton leads four Lady Tigers in the 5000m on Saturday at 4:20. Running with her in that event for Clemson will be Ashley Robinson. The final event of the afternoon is the 4x400m relay at 4:55. Clemson has two teams entered in that event.
