Jones Third After Two Rounds of Northeast Amateur

June 21, 2003

Clemson golfer Gregg Jones fired a second-round 67 and stands in third place at the 72-hole Northeast Amateur. The 42nd annual event is being played at Wannamoisset Golf Club in Rumsford, RI.

Jones had three birdies and one bogey on the par 69 course that is just over 6600 yards in length. He had an opening round 70 and his 137 total stands six shots behind leader Jason Hartwick, a member of the University of Texas golf team. Hartwick had a second round 66, the same score turned in by Chris Nallen, who stands in second place after two rounds with a 135 total, two ahead of Jones. Nallen is an All-American at Arizona.

Two other Tigers are in the 80-player field. Matt Hendrix, who like Jones will be a senior at Clemson next year and was a starter on the 2003 National Championship Clemson team, had a 71 on Friday after an opening 68. His 139 total is good enough for eighth place heading into the third round. Brent Delahoussaye, who won the Monroe Invitational last year, he ad 75 on Friday and stands in 53rd place with a two-round total of 146.
