Duncan Takes Palmetto Amateur

Aug. 16, 2004

Clemson, SC – Clemson junior Brian Duncan shot a final round 66 to win the Palmetto Amateur on Sunday afternoon. It was the first victory of the summer for Duncan, but the fourth top 12 finish in major amateur events for the 21-year-old from Greenville.

Duncan had rounds of 68-67-70-66 in shooting a 13-under-par 271. He finished one shot better than Jonathan Jackson of Chapel Hill, NC and four shots better than Scott Brown of Augusta, GA.

The field had to play 36 holes on Sunday to finish the full 72 hole event. Duncan trailed Brown and Jackson by one shot heading into the final round. He eagled the par five sixth hole in the final round, then added birdies on number-10, 11 and 13 to get to five under for the round. He made par on the final five holes to edge Jackson, who played the final four holes in two-over-par.

Duncan finished second at the Dogwood Invitational earlier this summer and also had an 11th place finish at the Southeastern Amateur and a 12th place at the Rice Planters.
