Cross Country Teams Open Season at Papa’s Pizza Invitational

CULLOWHEE, NC – The Clemson women’s and men’s cross country teams finished second and third respectively in the 2000 Papa’s Pizza Invitational held Saturday morning.

The women’s team finished behind Georgia who won the meet with 26 points. Clemson placed five runners in the top 20 to finish with 52 points.

Senior Erika van Reenen (Norcross, GA) was the top finisher for Clemson, as she finished second with a time of 18:34. Senior Jeanifer Meador (Mechanicsville, PA) finished seventh with a time of 19:13, and Perry Fields placed 11th (19:19). Renee Keydoszius was 15th (19:48), and Kristi Toothman (Greer, SC) finished 17th (20:11). Heather Nichols (Simpsonville, SC) was 26th with a time of 20:44, and Evangeline Ross (Traveler’s Rest) finished 30th with a time of 21:13.

The men’s team finished third with 70 points out of a field of six, behind Georgia State University who claimed the meet with 50 points, and second place Georgia (60). The freshmen led the Clemson squad, with all six newcomers finishing in the top 25.

David Adams (Bluffton, SC) won the meet with a time of 25:57. Fellow freshman Joe Harris (Ft. Myers, FL) also finished in the top ten with a ninth place time of 26:59. Brantlee Milner (Aiken, SC) finished 20th (27:33) while Mike Barton (Portland, ME) was 21st with a time of 27:34. Ryan Fenton (Portland, ME) was 25th with a time of 27:51 while junior Travis Alexander (Newberry, SC) was 26th (27:55). Junior B.J. Dillard (Simpsonville, SC) finished 28th (28:04), and freshman Nick Luden (Northeast, PA) was 38th (28:42).

Clemson will compete at the Winthrop Invitational in Rock Hill, SC, September 16.
