Clemson’s Sara Young Sets School Record At Orange & Purple Classic

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson women’s track and field team wrapped up its 2005 home meet schedule at the Orange and Purple Classic held Saturday at the Rock Norman Track and Field Complex. Highlighting the meet was Sara Young’s record-setting performance in the pole vault. The sophomore from Laurens, SC, cleared 12’11.5″ to set the Lady Tiger all-time record in the event.

In the running events, Randi Hinton was the top collegiate runner and regionally qualified in the 200m dash with her time of 23.95. Patrice McMillan placed third among collegiate competitors with her time of 2:18.22 in the 800m run. Renata Miyamoto crossed the finish line in 14.38 to finish 10th.

Anni Korhonen cleared 5’4.25″ in the high jump to finish second among collegiate competitors, while teammate Felicia Hawthorne posted a season-best clearance of 5’2.25″ to place third. In the shot put, Allison Bradshaw placed second with a mark of 44’6.25″, and Della Clark’s mark of 44’2″ placed her third in the event. Della Clark’s won the event with her career-best and regional qualifying mark of 184’11”, while Mikaela Patterson earned runner-up honors with a season-best throw of 170’11” to move into third on the all-time list. Catheryne Porter’s season-best effort of 132’4″ placed her fifth overall.

The Clemson women’s track and field team will return to action next Saturday, May 14, at the Georgia Tech Invitational.
