Clemson Track & Field Produces 11 First and Second-Team All-Americans

March 14, 2011

CLEMSON, SC – Behind national championship performances from Miller Moss in the heptathlon and Brianna Rollins in the 60 hurdles, Clemson track & field produced 11 first- and second-team All-Americans. The official list was released Monday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Clemson had four first-team selections and seven second-team choices. This is the first time the USTFCCCA adopted a policy to recognize first- and second-team All-Americans.

Moss won the heptathlon, Clemson’s first multi-event champion in its decorated track & field history. He totaled a career-best 5,986 points and earned All-America distinction for the second consecutive season. Rollins clocked an amazing 7.96 in the hurdles to run away with the national title in that event. It was also her second straight All-America honor in the event.

Other first-team All-Americans for the Tigers were April Sinkler in the triple jump and Marlena Wesh in the 400 dash. Sinkler was national runner-up in the triple jump with a personal best leap of 44’2″ on her final attempt. It was her fifth All-America honor. Wesh earned All-America recognition for the first time after placing eighth in the 400, despite falling during the final.

The women’s team produced five second-team All-Americans. Stormy Kendrick earned a pair of accolades, in the 60 and in the 200. Kendrick’s best performance was in the 200, where she was 11th with a time of 23.43. Jasmine Edgerson was second-team All-America in the 60 hurdles, while Sinkler earned the honor in the long jump and Brittney Waller for the weight throw.

The men’s team had a pair of second-team All-Americans in sophomore Spencer Adams and junior Justin Murdock. After placing 15th in the 60 hurdle prelims, Adams earned the distinction for the second time in his career. Murdock was 14th in the preliminary round of the 60 dash, his first-ever All-America honor in an individual event.
