Clemson to begin play in the NCAA Tennis Tournament

CLEMSON, SC-The Clemson men’s tennis team will start play in the NCAA Tournament on Saturday, May 15th at the Ambler Tennis Center on the Duke University campus in Durham, NC.

Clemson will play Minnesota at 12:00 noon Saturday. Duke will play Winthrop earlier in the day at 9:00 a.m. The winners will meet on Sunday, May 16th at 12 noon. The winner of Sunday’s match will advance to the round of 16 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The tournament consists of 64 teams and the first two rounds are held on 16 campus sites.

The Tigers are 23-11 this season and are led by Jarmaine Jenkins has a 21-15 record this season in singles and Nathan Thompson is 20-19 this year in singles play. Ryan Young is 21-9.

Clemson will play in its 21st NCAA Team Tournament since 1977, the first year that the NCAA went to a team format. Since that time, Clemson has advanced to the Final Sixteen 11 times and the Final Eight six times.

Clemson has been to the NCAA Team Tournament more than any other ACC school with 20 previous appearances.
