The Clemson men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will play host to Davidson Saturday at 1 p.m. at the McHUgh Natatorium in the Tigers’ final regular season meet. Clemson is coming off both a men’s and women’s victory against North Carolina State last weekend.
On the men’s side, senior Eric Shulick has qualified for the NCAA Zone Diving Meet in both the one- and three-meter diving competitions. Shulick, the defending ACC Champion in the one-meter diving event, set qualifying marks in both events last weekend, including his season-best score of 312.30 in the one-meter dive. Senior Tommy Rappold has set NCAA “B” Qualifying times in the 100 fly with a time of 47.76.
For the Lady Tigers, junior All-American Kim Routh leads the way with NCAA “B” Qualifying times in the 200 free, the 500 free, and the 1650 free. Routh claimed three event victories in last weekend’s meet against North Carolina State. Also, Shastain Leathers has set NCAA Zone Diving Qualifying scores in both the one- and three-meter diving events.
Davidson enters the meet with a 3-6 men’s record and a 4-7 women’s record overall. Davison and Clemson have several common opponents this season. The Wildcat men defeated College of Charleston and lost to Duke, while the Davidson women downed College of Chalreston and the fell to Duke and Gardner-Webb. Clemson defeated all three of these common opponents this season.
Clemson is under the leadership of head coach Chris Ip in his third season. In his two previous seasons at Clemson, Ip has led the Tiger men and women to records of 20-6-1 and 17-11 respectively. Ip has coached seven athletes to appearances in the NCAA Championship and four ACC event champions.
