Clemson Swimming and Diving Tied for Fifth at ACC Meet

The Clemson men’s swimming and diving team finished Day One in a tie with Georgia Tech for fifth place (54 points) at the 2005 Atlantic Coast Conference Championships at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center.

The Tigers opened the match with a seventh-place finish in the 800 freestyle relay with a time of 6:37.12. The time marks a season-best for Clemson and provisionally qualifies the Tigers for the NCAA Championships. Senior Buddy Reed led off the event by swimming the first 200 yards in a time of 1:37.81, setting a new Clemson record and provisionally qualifying Reed for the NCAA Championship.

In the second event of the night, Clemson finished in fourth-place in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:29.71, which ranks second on the Clemson all-time list.

Florida State and Virginia Tech lead the overall standings at the ACC Championships with 64 team points. The ACC meet will continue on Thursday with preliminaries at 11:00 a.m. and finals beginning at 7:00 p.m.
