CLEMSON, S.C. – On Thursday, the Clemson men’s tennis team (0-1) will face No. 14 South Carolina (3-0) in Columbia, S.C. for the ITA Kickoff in another installment of the 2025-26 South Carolina Education Lottery Palmetto Series. Originally scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 24 and Sunday, Jan. 25, the ITA Kickoff was moved up due to impending weather. Thursday’s match will start at 11 a.m., can be streamed on TrackTennis and will have live results updating through StatBroadcast.

Thursday’s matchup marks the 117th contest between the Tigers and Gamecocks. The teams first met in Clemson over 100 years ago in April 1925 where South Carolina opened the series with a 4-2 win. Clemson avenged its loss less than a week later, picking up a 4-2 win. In 1989, the teams met for the first time as top 10 opponents in a matchup that saw Clemson pick up a 5-4 road victory. The teams have split two postseason meetings, with the most recent being a 2006 Clemson victory. South Carolina leads the all-time series 73-41-2 but Clemson comes into this season’s contest looking to win consecutive matches in the series after a 7-0 sweep in 2025, the first Clemson sweep over South Carolina since 1995.

Depending on the Thursday’s results, Friday will see the Tigers face either Harvard or No. 24 Michigan State in a consolation match (10 a.m.) or for the championship (1 p.m.).

LAST TIME OUT

Last weekend, Clemson faced Louisiana State at the Duckworth Family Tennis Facility. Yannic Nittman and Matisse Farzam picked up a doubles victory to split the first two doubles contests but LSU won the doubles point on the first of three tiebreakers on the day. Farzam earned Clemson’s first point of the day before LSU took the next two singles points. Romain Gales fought back, earning a tiebreaker victory, 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 (5). Noa Vukadin saved two match points and grinded out a three-set victory to draw the teams even. In the final match, Marko Mesarovic battled deep into a tiebreaker but eventually lost 4-6, 6-3, 6 -7 (4), dropping Clemson to 0-1 on the year.
