Clemson Men’s Track & Field In Sixth At ACC Championships

ORLANDO, FL – The Clemson men’s track and field team is in sixth place after the first day of competition at the ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Virginia leads the league with 59 points while Florida State is second with 52.5 points. North Carolina is third (41) and NC State is fourth (30.5) while Wake Forest is in fifth place with 24.5 points. The Tigers’ 11 points is good for sixth while Duke, Maryland and Georgia Tech round out the field with 10.5, three and two points respectively.

Andy Giesler leads the field in the decathlon with 3921 points while Rick Hill is fourth with 3530 points. Four Tigers qualified in the 100m dash, led by Sultan Tucker who recorded a time of 10.58. Jacey Harper and Larry Griffin both recorded a time of 10.59 while David Collins qualified for the finals with a time of 10.71. Todd Matthews had a time of 11.01 in the preliminaries of the 100m. In the 200m dash, Ato Modibo recorded a time of 21.54 to lead four Tigers to the finals of the event. Otto Spain recorded a time of 21.68 while Harper posted a time of 21.77 and Kai Maull qualified in 21.95. Matt Thompson, Spain and Modibo qualified for the 400m dash with times o 47.53, 46.40 and 46.65, respectively. In the 800m, Mike Connelly qualified for the finals with a time of 1:51.41. Jason Meany posted a time of 31:14.70 in the 10,000m run to finish fifth. Five Tigers competed in the 110m hurdles, with four athletes advancing to the finals. Tucker and Matthews recorded the best times for the Tigers with marks of 14.01 and 14.04, respectively. Shauntae Lovings posted a time of 14.30 and Ian Potter also qualified for the finals with a time of 14.69. Tony Washington recorded a time of 14.85 in the preliminaries of the 110m hurdles and qualified for the finals of the 400m hurdles with a time of 51.76.

Giesler finished 11th in the javelin with a mark of 177’5″ and Ameigh was ninth with a mark of 185′. Kai Maull posted a fourth-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 24’5″ while Lovings was 12th with a jump of 22’1 1/2″. Brit Barrow finished 14th with a mark of 21’6″ and Tony Lloyd was 15th (21’5 1/2″). Benjamin Hess and Adam Klotzbach both no-heighted in the pole vault.

The ACC outdoor track and field championships conclude Saturday at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, FL.
