Clemson Men’s Tennis Defeats South Alabama, 4-3

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson men’s tennis team defeated South Alabama by a score of 4-3 on Saturday at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center on the campus of Clemson University. The Tigers improve to 11-4 overall, while the Jaguars fall to 6-3 on the season.

In singles play, Nathan Thompson downed Clinton Jacobs at number on singles, 6-2, 6-3. The Tigers’ Sander Koning defeated the Jaguars’ Heinrich Heyl at flight two singles by a score of 6-2, 6-2. At number three singles, Micah Thompson dropped a three-set match (7-6, 4-6, 6-3) to Aurelio DiZazzo. Jarmaine Jenkins posted a win at number four singles over David Nylen by a score of 6-1, 6-2. At flight five singles, Damiisa Robinson was victorious over Jorgen Vestli, 6-3, 6-1. John Boetsch fell to Evan Fowler at number six singles by a score of 2-6, 6-3, 7-6.

In doubles action, Nathan Thompson and Jenkins fell to Heyl and Jacobs at number one doubles, 6-2, 6-3. The Tigers duo of Robinson and Ash Misquith were victorious over Pavel Mazaev and Vestli at flight two doubles by a score of 8-4. At number three doubles, DiZazzo and Fowler defeated Clemson’s Koning and Boetsch by a score of 8-6.

The Tigers will return to action tomorrow, as they open ACC play against NC State at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center at 1:00 p.m.
