The Clemson men’s basketball team will play High Point University Wednesday at 7:00 PM in its first action away from the Civic Center of Anderson. The game will be played at the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, NC, but Clemson will be the home team.
This will be the first ever meeting between the two schools. Clemson will host two other Big South conference members this season, Liberty and Coastal Carolina.
Senior Walker Holt, a Greensboro native, will start Wednesday night along with Ed Scott, Chey Christie, Chris Hobbs and Sharrod Ford for the Tigers. Clemson (1-0) is coming off a 79-72 victory over Wofford on Sunday. Scott and Hobbs each had 19 while Ford had 12 points in the winning effort. Ray Henderson added eight points and 12 rebounds.
Jerry Steele is in his 31st year as head coach of High Point (2-0), which defeated Northern Arizona and Central Connecticut State to win the Mohegan Sun Classic last weekend in New Britain, CT. The Panthers are led by Virginia Tech transfer Danny Gathings, who is averaging 20.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per game from his forward position. Frontcourt teammate Dustin Van Weerdhuizen is averaging 17.0 points per contest. Joe Knight, the Big South Rookie of the Year in 2001-02, leads the backcourt with a 10.0 ppg average
