First Round Results
CLEMSON, S.C. — Oscar Bredkjaer shot a bogey free 66 to lead Clemson to a six-under-par team score of 278 and a third-place standing out of 15 teams at the Bryan Brothers Collegiate at Solina Golf Club in West Columbia, S.C. The tournament was slated to being on Monday, but was moved up a day due to weather concerns.
Charlotte has the team with a 271 score, 13-under par, two shots ahead of LSU (273). Clemson is in third place after its 278 in the first round, while Charleston is fourth at 280 and host school South Carolina and Duke are fifth at 281. Clemson finished strong as a team with seven birdies over the last four holes.
Bredkjaer’s 66 was the second best round by a Tiger this year, just one shot off his 65 at the Myrtle Beach Golf Trips Collegiate to start the season. It was his second bogey-free round of the year in just his seventh round. He got his round off to a great start with an eagle three on the par five 535-yard 11th hole, his second of the day. He hit his drive in the fairway, then hit a six-iron to 33 feet. He then made the long eagle putt. Bredkjaer is tied for first place after the first round.
Sophomore Rich Wills had a three-under-par 68, his third round in the 60s of the young season. He got off to s tough start with a bogey on his first hole, the 10th hole on the course, then went bogey free the rest of the round. He finished with four birdies and just the one bogey. He stands in seventh place after the first round.
Senior Thomas Higgins was a third Tiger to score in the 60s in the first round with a two-under-par 69. He had three birdies and just one bogey to rank in 12th place after the first round. Clemson’s top three players on Sunday combined for just two bogeys.
Lucas Augustsson, Clemson’s leader in stroke average entering the tournament, had a 75, four over par. Colin Salema was the non-counter with a 77.
Freshman Sam Duran made his Clemson debut as an individual and shot an eventful 75. He had an 11 on the par four eighth hole to be nine over for his first eight holes. He then responded by playing his last 10 holes at five-under-par. That included a five-under-par 32 on the back nine. He made his first career eagle on the par five 14th hole.
