Clemson Golf Leads After Round One of Carpet Classic

Dalton, GA – The Clemson golf team shot a one-over-par 289 on Friday to lead the Carpet Classic at The Farm in Dalton, GA. The Tigers lead second-place UNLV by five strokes and are trying to repeat as champions in the event.

The Tiger effort was led by Matt Hendrix, who made seven birdies on his way to a three-under 69. Hendrix is in the individual lead ahead of three players who each shot a 70. Hendrix is competing in just his second collegiate event of the year after missing the opening tournament due to competing in the Walker Cup.

Jack Ferguson was the other Clemson golfer under par with a 71 and he stands in a tie for fifth place. Gregg Jones is in 16th place with a one-over 73. Brian Duncan shot a four-over-par 76, which included an eagle on the par-5 15th hole, but also a nine on the par-4 18th hole. Brent Delahoussaye rounded out the squad with a five-over 77.

The Tigers will tee of tomorrow in the second of three rounds hoping to extend its current streak of 21 consecutive tournaments with a top-three finish.
