Clemson Finishes 13th at Ping-Golfweek Preview

CLEMSON, SC – Clemson finished 13th out of the 15-team field at the Ping-Golfweek Preview at Karsten Creek in Stillwater, OK on Tuesday. The 54-hole event featured 15 of the top 20 teams in the nation and is held at the site of the 2011 NCAA Championship next June. The Tigers finished with a score of 932 for the three rounds, 68 over par on the difficult 7403 yard course.

Only one player in the 75-player field broke par for the three days and only three teams were better than 20 over par for the tournament.

Oklahoma State, the host institution, won the event by four shots over UCLA. In addition to Clemson’s 13th place finish, other ACC schools Georgia Tech (7) and Virginia (10) also competed.

Clemson struggled the first day with a team score of 36 over par 324. Clemson improved in round two with a 303 team score and finished with a 305 on Tuesday.

Corbin Mills was Clemson’s top golfer with a 232 score after rounds of 86-72-74. Mills second round 72 was the only round at par or better for the Tigers in the event.

Crawford Reeves, like Mills a sophomore, finished with a 235 score after rounds of 83-76-76. David Dannelly finished 60th overall with a score of 237, including a 74 in the third round that tied as Clemson’s best round of the day.

Jacob Burger also finished with a 237 score after rounds of 78-78-81. McCuen Elmore, who was Clemson’s top golfer in the first round with a 77, finished with a 246 score.

Clemson will next be in action October 9-11 at The Brickyard in Macon, GA.
