CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson University women’s soccer team (3-4-5, 0-3-2) lost to No. 2 Notre Dame 5-1 Sunday night at Historic Riggs Field. The lone goal was scored by Anna Castenfelt, her first of the season, on a free kick late in the match.
How it Happened
Notre Dame made a penalty kick opportunity in the 29th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Right before halftime, The Fighting Irish scored again to make the match 2-0.
Notre Dame extended its lead three more times in the second half, once in the 60th minute, again in the 74th minute and the last time during the 80th minute, ultimately making it a 5-0 match.
In the 84th minute, the Tigers capitalized on a free kick that resulted in Castenfelt netting her first goal of the season (second in career), leading to a final score of 5-1.
Despite the outcome, Head Coach Eddie Radwanski shared some positivity. “Well, the one thing our girls did a good job of is they never stopped competing. The players never put their heads down and they kept fighting.”
