Clemson, SC – Tanner Ervin fired a final round 69 and Brian Duncan shot a 70 to lead Clemson to a 291 team score at the final round of the Hootie @ Bulls Bay Intercollegiate on Tuesday. Clemson finished 12th overall in the field of 15 teams with a 54-hole score of 896. The 291 for the final round was an 11-shot improvement over Clemson’s second round and 12 shots better than the opening round.
The tournament was played in trying weather conditions. No team shot better than 14 over par for the event and there were only four under-par team rounds out of the 45 team rounds completed.
The first Hootie @ Bulls Bay Intercollegiate was played at the Bulls Bay Golf Club in Awnedaw, SC. The course is a par 71 layout that is 7189 yards in length. Kentucky and Augusta State both had 54-hole scores of 866. Kentucky then won the team playoff on the first hole. Scott Jamison of Augusta State won the individual honors with a 205 score, eight-under par. Webb Simpson of Wake Forest shot a three-under par 210 (-3) and was the only other player in the 75-player field under par.
Duncan was Clemson’s top golfer for the event with a 220 score after rounds of 75-75-70. He finished in 20th place individually. He played the par fives well for the event, scoring two-under par for the tournament. His 70 on Tuesday and Ervin’s 69 were the only under par rounds by a Clemson golfer in the tournament.
Jack Ferguson was actually Clemson’s second best golfer for the 54- holes with a 225 score, 12 over par for a tie for 40th. Brent Delahoussaye was 45th with a 226 total after rounds of 73-75-78. Ervin also finished 45th after improving from 80 to 77 to 69 over his three rounds. The event was played on his home course. Nick Biershenk finished 70th overall with a 238 score after rounds of 79-78-81.
The 15-team field featured nine of the top 20 teams in the nation. Thirteen of the 15 schools were either from the SEC or the ACC.
Clemson will complete its regular season at the Augusta State Invitational this weekend (April 2-3). Clemson will then play in the ACC Tournament April 15-17 at the Old North State Club in North Carolina.
