Clemson freshman Stephen Behr was been named to the Ping All-Region team on Tuesday afternoon. The native of Florence, SC was the only Clemson golfer named to the team.
Behr led Clemson in stroke average this year with a 72.97 figure, the sixth best stroke average by a freshman in Clemson history. Behr played in 10 of Clemson’s 11 tournaments this past year and had three top 10 finishes, tied for the best mark on the team.
Behr finished fourth at the Carpet Classic in the fall and became just the second player in Clemson history to record a top 10 as a freshman in his first two tournaments. He was also seventh at the Fighting Illini Classic and fifth at the Cleveland Golf Invitational.
Behr had seven rounds under par, second on the team, including four in the 60s, tied for second on the team. His 65 in the final round of the Cleveland Golf Invitational on March 12 was the best individual round by a Clemson golfer all year. His score counted in 27 of his 29 rounds this year, best on the Clemson team on a percentage basis.
