CLEMSON, S.C. – No. 16 Clemson (3-5) took a ranked opponent down to the wire for the second straight night, ultimately falling 4-3 against No. 22 Arizona State (10-3).
Clemson and Arizona State traded blows in doubles with Shimanov and Artnak (ASU) defeating Viktor Markov and Henrik Bladelius (CU), 7-5, followed by Marko Mesarovic and Matisse Farzam (CU) winning over Sarr and Minarik (ASU), 6-4. Arizona State claimed the doubles point after Noa Vukadin and Manuel Plunger fell to Matsuoka and Ginat, 7-5.
The Tigers won back-to-back singles points, taking a 2-1 lead after Vukadin defeated Shimanov, 6-1, 6-2 and Bladelius defeated Mikovic, 7-6(7), 6-3. Arizona then took two straight matches before Farzam turned it into a 3-3 match with a 7-6(4), 7-6(5) victory over Matsuoka. Plunger took the first set, 6-4 but fell the next two rounds to Ginat, 7-6(2), 6-1, leading to the Tigers’ 4-3 defeat.
