Tigers Trek to Dallas for Second-Ever Clash Against SMU

CLEMSON, S.C. – Clemson University (4-4-5, 1-3-2) is back on the road this Thursday, Oct. 7 to face Southern Methodist University (8-3-2, 2-1-2) at Washburne Soccer & Track Stadium in Dallas, Texas. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the match can be watched on ACCNX and tracked through live stats at clemsontigers.com.

 

This will mark the second time in program history that Clemson faces of against SMU with the first meeting happening 26 years ago on Sept. 5, 1999. Also taking place in Dallas, that match concluded with the Tigers on top for a 4-1 victory.

 

This Season’s Quick Kicks

  • The last time out, Clemson won its first conference match of the season after overcoming a 1-0 deficit against Syracuse. On a free kick attempt in the final seconds of the match, Anna Castenfelt found the back of the net, leading to the final score of 2-1.
    • Castenfelt, who scored her second goal in as many matches, took full advantage of a free kick, scoring with six seconds remaining in the match.
    • Castenfelt also had the first assist on Emily Brough’s equalizing goal earlier in the match. Jolie Jenkins was credited with the second assist.
    • Clemson ended competition against Syracuse with 31 shots, which is the most taken by the team since defeating Gardner-Webb 9-0 (40 shots, 8/20/2023).
  • The Tigers have faced more ranked opponents (seven) than unranked opponents (six) this season.
    • Despite SMU evening that count, The Tigers will turn around to face Wake Forest, who is currently No. 13.
      • Notable results against ranked opponents include:
      • 1-1 draw against Ohio State (then No. 18, now No. 22)
      • 0-0 draw against South Carolina (then No. 12, now No. 15)
      • 1-1 draw against Georgia (then No. 15, now No. 21)
      • 2-2 draw against Stanford (then No. 3, now No. 2)
    • Clemson’s current freshman class (TopDrawerSoccer’s No. 2 ranked class) has multiple players making an impact early in their careers with Juju Harris leading the way.
      • Harris (12 games started, team-leading five goals and 13 points).

      • Reese Klein (13 games played, 12 started).

  • Clemson claimed its 355th all-time win with its victory against Syracuse.
  • Brough’s goal against Syracuse was her first of the season and fifth of her career.
  • Brooks earned her fifth career start against Syracuse.
  • Castenfelt’s game-winning goal against Syracuse was the third of her career.
    • Paired with the goal she scored against Notre Dame, she now has a new season high for her career in that category.
    • Castenfelt is one appearance away from playing in her 30th match for Clemson.
  • Mackenzie Duff is just under 48 minutes away from 5,000 in her career.
  • Addy Holgorsen is eyeing up her 20th career start for Clemson.
    • She is two saves away from having 45 in her career.
  • Renee Lyles hit her 75th career match played against Syracuse and is one start away from having 65.
  • Maria Manousos is one start away from the 25th of her career.
  • Nona Reason surpassed 65 career saves after recording two against Syracuse. She now sits at 66 saves in her career.
