CLEMSON, S.C. — The Clemson men’s golf team will compete in the Bryan Brothers Collegiate at Solina Country Club in West Columbia, S.C. for the first time Monday and Tuesday, September 29-30. The 15-team field is scheduled to play 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday.
Clemson, Duke and NC State will be in the field from the ACC, while host school South Carolina and LSU are SEC teams competing. Other schools in the tournament included Yale, Mercer, UAB, Little Rock, Augusta, Charlotte, Liberty, College of Charleston, North Florida and Winthrop.
This will be Clemson’s third tournament of the year and second in the state of South Carolina. Clemson began the academic year with a tie for second at the Myrtle Beach Golf Trips Intercollegiate, and finished tied for seventh in the Invitational at The Honors Course in Chattanooga.
Jordan Byrd will start the same lineup for the third consecutive tournament. Lucas Augustsson will lead the team from the number-one position. The native of Sweden has the top stroke average on the team at 71.50 and he leads the team in par three scoring (3.05) and par four scoring (.3.97). He finished seventh at the Invitational at The Honors Course against a national field.
Oscar Bredkjaer, a transfer from San Francisco, has a pair of top 20 finishes on his resume so far this year and has a 72.00 scoring average. He leads the team in birdies (22) and has the low round of the year with a 65 in the season opener at Myrtle Beach.
Rich Willis, a sophomore from Cramerton, N.C., is third in the lineup with a 72.50 stroke average. He has a pair of rounds in the 60s and another round at par so far this year. He has finished 20th and 28th, respectively in the two tournaments so far this year.
Thomas Higgins was Clemson’s top golfer at Myrtle Beach with and eighth-place finish, his fifth career top 10 for the Tigers. This will be his 30th career tournament for Clemson. The senior from Ireland has 19 career rounds under-par.
Colin Salema rounds out the Clemson team lineup with a 75.17 stroke average so far this year. He is coming off a strong summer when he finished second at the Monroe Amateur and took medalist honors at the Carolinas Amateur by six shots.
Freshman Sam Duran will compete in Columbia as an individual. This will be his first career event. Freshman Jackson Byrd will sit out his second straight tournament with a back injury.
