Clemson To Face Rival South Carolina In Men’s Tennis

Clemson, SC – The 33rd-ranked Clemson men’s tennis team will travel to Columbia to face 51st-ranked South Carolina Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 at the Sam Daniel Tennis Facility. Clemson enters Wednesday’s match against the Gamecocks with a 3-5 overall record. South Carolina is 4-3 on the season.

Not only will the match be a showdown of two nationally ranked programs, it will also feature nationally ranked singles and doubles players from each team. Clemson’s Josh Goffi is ranked 34th nationally in singles and the doubles team of Goffi and Marko Gojanovic is rated as the 46th best doubles team in the country. Goffi, a two-time All-ACC performer, has played all of his matches this season in the number-one position and has a 12-11 overall record. The doubles team of Eric Cohn and Darren Knight are 7-1 on the season and have won seven straight matches while playing in the number-two position for the Tigers. For South Carolina, Guillaume Legat is ranked 62nd nationally in singles.

South Carolina holds a 38-30 all-time advantage over Clemson and the Tigers are 12-21 against the Gamecocks in matches played in Columbia. Last season, South Carolina registered a 4-3 win over the Tigers in Clemson.

This season, Clemson has faced a nationally ranked opponent in each of its first eight matches. Clemson has wins over 39th-ranked Boise State, 38th-ranked Minnesota, and 35th-ranked Michigan. South Carolina is 0-3 this season against nationally ranked opponents.
