Mackin, Hershfelt Shine on Senior Day

BOX SCORE

Clemson, S.C. – In a day set to honor Clemson’s six seniors, Julie Mackin netted two goals to lead the Tigers to a 3-2 victory over the Pitt Panthers. The victory would mark Clemson’s 10th win of the year as they move to 10-5-1, 4-5 ACC with one regular season match remaining.

Senior forward Julie Mackin kicked off the scoring for the Tigers in the 26th minute after a series of passes across the top of the box from Harper White and Caroline Conti found a rushing Mackin. She would lay her first touch into the top right corner of the net to give Clemson the early advantage.

Shortly after the opening whistle of the second half, Mackin netted her second goal of the afternoon off a low ball from the top of the box. It would mark her third goal of the year and gave her, her first multi-goal game in a Clemson uniform.

Despite Pitt rallying with two goals in the second half to force overtime, the Tigers wasted no time to seal the deal with freshman Hal Hershfelt powering home the game-winner in the second minute of overtime. Conti would pick up the assist on the game-winning goal, giving her two assists on the afternoon and moving her season points total to six.

Head Coach Eddie Radwanski

“Winning is hard and you can’t take it for granted. Heading into overtime we talked about trusting what we do and believing in what it is you’re going to do and we ended up scoring a great goal there. Games like these you have to deal with adversity and challenges but we can grow from that. Overall, a great team win today.”
