Dec. 14, 2009
On Monday, November 30 and Tuesday, December 1, nearly 40 Clemson University student-athletes got into the spirit of giving thanks during the holiday season by participating in a thank-a-thon. The Clemson Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) coordinated the Third Annual Thank-a-Thon to thank the numerous IPTAY donors who make their athletic scholarships possible through their generous monetary contributions.
Together, the student-athletes combined to call all of the Heisman, Fike and McFadden level donors, and a portion of the IPTAY level donors. The baseball and women’s tennis teams both made the event a team volunteering affair. Here’s what student-athletes from those respective teams had to say about their involvement in personally calling donors to thank them for their generosity:
“The Thank-a-Thon is an important event because our Athletic Department at Clemson would not be at the level it is without all the generous donations from our alumni and donors. They are a huge reason why Clemson competes nationally in every sport year after year. I am personally thankful for the donors because it is great to have the support from the community and for them to recognize that we compete the way we do because we love being a part of Clemson and representing them as well as everything Clemson is about.”-Mike Freeman, Baseball – Senior
“It’s a great way to help represent Clemson Athletics and also a great way to thank our donors and let them know we really appreciate it and wouldn’t be here without their contributions. Thanking the donors really reminded me how thankful I really am, and to not waste a moment.”-Laurianne Henry, Women’s Tennis – Sophomore
