Clemson, SC – Patricia Mamona and Liane Weber were officially selected to compete at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships next week in Sacramento, CA. The meet will be held June 6-9 at the Alex G. Spanos Sports Complex on the campus of Sacramento State University.
Mamona placed third at the NCAA East Region Championships last weekend in the triple jump. She had a season-best mark of 43’2.5″ and ranks second on Clemson’s all-time performance list in the event. She is the first triple jumper from Clemson to advance to the NCAA Championships since former All-American Gisele Oliveira in 2005.
Mamona earned All-ACC honors both indoor and outdoor this season, her first year with the program. She fell just shy of earning a trip to the NCAA Indoor Championships in March, but earned her way in on her last jump Saturday afternoon in Gainesville, FL. Mamona also ranks second on Clemson’s indoor performance list in the triple jump.
Weber earned an at-large invitation for the heptathlon. She posted a school record total of 5,337 points at the ACC Championships, where she was runner-up to Amy Seward of Miami. Weber also participated in the pentathlon at the NCAA Indoor Championships in March. She was the only freshman to compete in that five-event slate. She will be one of four freshmen competing in the decathlon next week.
Weber is the third Lady Tiger in school history to earn a bid to the NCAA Championships in the heptathlon. Katja Pettinen competed in 1995 and was 12th overall with 5,270 points. Lauren Nicholson was 24th in 2003.
The start lists for the meet will be available next week on NCAASports.com.
