Tigers Sweep ETSU on Saturday

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Clemson Tigers (2-0) continued their opening weekend momentum with a three-set sweep against ETSU (0-3) on Saturday evening in Columbia at the Gamecock Classic. Saturday’s sweep marks back-to-back sweeps to open the 2025 season, which is a first for Clemson since 2019 when the Tigers defeated Georgia and Wofford in Jervey Gym.

The Tigers dominated the opening set by jumping out to a 10-point advantage within the first 20 combined points scored. Junior Kennedy Wagner led the charge in the opening frame with nine kills, including the set-winning kill. In the second, Clemson had to battle back from an eight-point deficit in order to claim the win. The Tigers were able to do it behind a seven-point run with kills from Mia McGrath, Kate Hansen and Wagner, along with an ace from McGrath.

The Tigers clinched their second sweep of the 2025 season with Mia Moore, McGrath, Hansen and Wagner providing crucial kills down the stretch. Katherine Sandt and McKenna Gildon added aces for Clemson, and a service error by ETSU closed out the match. In total, eight Tigers contributed at least one point, including Wagner (18.0), McGrath (13.5) and Hansen (13.5) all finishing in double-digits.

Clemson concludes weekend action at the Gamecock Classic on Sunday, Aug. 31 at 2 p.m. against host South Carolina on SEC+. It will be the third matchup for the Tigers and the Gamecocks in the Palmetto Series presented by the South Carolina Education Lottery during the 2025-26 campaign, as both men’s soccer (W, 4-1) and women’s soccer (T, 0-0) squared off earlier this week in Clemson.
