Tigers Fall to Hurricanes on Sunday

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson Tigers (12-2, 0-2 ACC) dropped a three-set match (19-25, 18-25, 18-25) to No. 24 Miami (12-1, 2-0 ACC) on Sunday afternoon to conclude the month-long home stand in Jervey Gym. The Tigers capped the month by welcoming in 1,320 fans, the second-largest crowd at home this season.

The first two sets started similarly with neither side taking more than a three-point advantage until after the media timeout. Kennedy Wagner, Mia McGrath and Kate Hansen continued to power the Tigers through the opening set, and Claire Luoma and Nil Okur came away with a crucial ace and kills down the stretch in the second, but the Hurricanes were able to take a two-set advantage heading to the third.

The Tigers looked to respond in the third when they opened on a 6-2 run behind kills from Hansen, McGrath and Bianca Martinez in conjunction with an ace from McKenna Gildon. Miami answered with a 9-1 run to take the lead. Hansen broke up the run with a kill that was supplemented by an additional kill down the stretch from Martinez. Katherine Sandt looked to spark the Tigers with a solo block and an ace, but it wasn’t enough as Miami closed out the set and match.
