200 Free Relay Team Claims ACC Crown

COLLEGE PARK, MD. — The Clemson women’s swimming and diving team is ranked fourth after the first day of competition at the ACC Championships. The Tigers have earned 114 points through six events in the competition that is being held at Campus Recreation Center Natatorium. North Carolina leads the competition with 204 points.

The Tiger 200 free relay team of Christine Woodruff, Jenna Burtch, Elise Theiler, and Patty Hider claimed the ACC Championship in the event with a time of 1:31.39. In winning the event, the Tigers also posted an NCAA-B qualifying time and set a new pool record.

Jenna Burtch finished fifth in the 50 free with a time of 23.02, and Elise Theiler finished sixth with a time of 23.13. Along with Theiler and Burtch, Patty Hider earned a ninth-place finish with a time of 23.44, and all three athletes posted NCAA-B qualifying times.

Burtch and Theiler capped an impressive day by combining with teammates Mandy Commons and Lindsey Kroeger to earn a second-place finish in the 400 medley relay and post an NCAA-B qualifying time of 3:42.43.

The Tigers will return to action tomorrow morning with the preliminaries set to begin at 11:00 a.m.
