Clemson, SC – The Clemson rowing team will travel to Oak Ridge, Tenn. on Monday , April 20 to compete in the ACC Rowing Championship on Lake Melton. The competition will begin at 9 am with the Varsity 4+ race, followed in order by the Novice 8+ at 9:20, the Second Varsity 8+ at 9:40, and the First Varsity Eight at 10:00. Clemson is seeded second behind Virginia in each of the four events.

Clemson’s Varsity 8+moved up two spots this week to claim a #14 ranking in the USRowing/CRCA Coaches Poll. The Varsity 8+ is also coming off a week in which they were named the ACC Crew of the Week after defeating UCF and Tennessee at the Virginia Invitational last weekend. The Second Varsity 8+, Varsity 4+, and Novice 8+ are also coming off victories from the regatta held in Charlottesville, VA.

Last season, the Tigers finished second overall at the Championship behind nine-time ACC champion Virginia. Clemson’s Novice 8+ became just the third non-Virginia crew to win an event in the history of the league championship when the crew won their race last year. Each of the Tiger’s other three crews finished in second place behind the Cavaliers. Last year’s ACC Freshman of the Year Liz Robb and All-American Jessica Leidecker look add All-ACC accolades to their resume for a second consecutive season.

The Varsity 8+ race is worth the most points toward a team’s total. The winner of that race will bring home 24 points, while the Second Varsity 8+ champion will accumulate 18. The Varsity 4+ is worth 12 points, while the Novice 8+ winner will earn six. In addition to determining this year’s ACC Team Champions, the All-ACC Rowing team will be named just after the conclusion of the Championships as will the ACC’s Coach of the Year and Rookie of the Year award-winners. Also announced will be the ACC’s Crew of the Year.
