#11 Clemson Rowing Wins Six of Nine Races at the 2010 ACC/Big 10 Challenge

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – The 11th ranked Clemson rowing team competed in the 2010 ACC/Big 10 Challenge Saturday on Lake Monticello. The Tigers took four out of five races against #12 Ohio State in the morning action, and won two of four against #10 Michigan fin the afternoon.

In the Varsity Eight competition, the Tigers took the win over Ohio State with a time of 6:40.6 as the Buckeyes finished in a time of 6:42.2. Then Michigan defeated Clemson with a time of 6:39.1 compared to the Tigers’ 6:51.8.

Then in the Second Varsity Eight’s, Ohio State finished first with a time of 6:49.4 while the Tigers finished in a time of 6:57.0. Clemson fell to Michigan as the Wolverines put in a time of 6:58.9 and the Tigers finished in a time of 7:05.8.

Clemson’s Varsity Four won both of its races on the day. In the first race, they defeated Ohio State as the Tigers put in a time of 7:30.7 and the Buckeyes finished in a time of 7:44.3. Clemson took the win over Michigan as the Clemson A crew finished in a time of 7:49.7, Michigan a time of 8:01.7 and the Clemson B crew was third in a time of 8:07.6. The Tigers’ Second Varsity Four defeated Ohio State as they finished in a time of 7:47.6 compared to Ohio State’s 7:54.7.

Clemson’s Novice Eight also had a successful day as they had wins over both Ohio State and Michigan. The Tigers finished in a time of 7:02.7 to win over Ohio State’s A crew who finished in 7:11.0 and Ohio State’s B team took third in a time of 7:26.4. Then against the Wolverines, Clemson won in a time of 7:06.1 to Michigan’s 7:09.1.

The Tigers will travel to Los Angeles, CA next Saturday, April 10 as they will face UCLA and Southern California.
