SARASOTA, Fla. – The Clemson Tigers impressed on day two of the Big 10 invite with their 1v4 and 3v8 earning first place in their respective races, bringing the total number of first place finishes for the Tigers to three in Sarasota, Fla. Between Friday and Saturday’s races, Clemson also accumulated two second place, three third place, five fourth place and two fifth place finishes.
“This final round of racing was our most successful,” said Head Coach Stephen Frazier Wong. “Our 1V4, coached by Amanda Merritt, set the tone by winning by open water in their race. Not to be outdone, the 3V8, coached by Amy Hildebrandt, also won by going clear of the field. The 1V8 lost another heartbreaker, but they keep rowing gutsy races and they believe in their speed. The 2V8 and the 2V4 showed improvement across the regatta and I am excited to see what they can do next weekend in Raleigh.”
Like Saturday, the 2v4 boat kicked off the racing for the day. With a 7:50.595 time, the 2v4 finished fourth. The Tigers then secured their first first place finish of the day as the 1v4 won by open water, defeating UCLA, Michigan State, Minnesota and Oklahoma by more than eight seconds with an impressive 7:26.191 finishing time. After that, the 2v8 placed fourth at 6:53.991 and the 1v8 placed third at 6:53.991. Finally, Clemson’s 3v8 closed out the racing with a first place finish at 6:57.179, beating Iowa and Wisconsin.
Up Next: The Tigers will compete next weekend on April 26 and 27th at the Lake Wheeler Invite in Raleigh, N.C. for their final races of the 2024 regular season.
