Volleyball Plays Host to Miami, Florida State This Weekend

Clemson volleyball welcomes a pair of ACC foes to town this weekend, as the Tigers play host to Miami and Florida State in a pair of pivotal conference matches. The Tigers, 15-9 on the season (5-5 in the ACC), take on Miami at 7:00 PM Friday and Florida State at 6:00 PM Saturday.

The Tigers have won seven of their last nine matches, including a 3-0 defeat over Georgia Southern on Tuesday. Clemson hits .236 as a team, led by Lori Ashton’s .335 percentage. Ashton also leads the team with 102 total blocks. Leslie Finn trails former Tiger great Alison Coday by just one kill for fourth all-time in Clemson history (1,677 kills). Finn’s 5.35 per game average is best in the league. Brittany Ross is second on the team with 335 kills, averaging 3.90 per game as a freshman.

The Miami Hurricanes come into Friday’s match with a 12-6 overall record (7-3 in the ACC). The Hurricanes have won five in a row, including four straight in conference play.

Valeria Tipiana is the defending ACC Player-of-the-Week. She leads the Hurricane squad with 323 kills and a 4.82 per game average. She also leads the team in hitting with a .352 percentage. Tipiana has also contributed 42 service aces, 153 digs, and 51 total blocks.

Florida State is in the ACC logjam with Clemson at 5-5 in the conference standings. The Seminoles are 13-8 overall this year. Florida State has won four of its last five matches. The Seminoles play at Georgia Tech before coming to Tigertown on Saturday.

The Seminole offense falls on Amanda Santos, who leads the squad with a .382 hitting percentage. Santos also has 224 kills and 106 total blocks, including 21 solo. Leading the team in kills is Kristen Rust with 261, equating to an average of 3.68 per game.
