Rowing to Scrimmage Georgetown Saturday

March 11, 2005

Clemson rowing will play host to Georgetown University in a scrimmage on Lake Hartwell Saturday. Clemson’s varsity 8+, second varsity 8+, third varsity 8+, novice 8+, and second novice 8+ will compete in the scrimmage. Each boat will compete in five, 1,500 meter pieces. The event is separated into two flights, with the first race set to get underway at 8:30 AM.

The first two 1,500 meter pieces will feature starts, while the final three pieces will feature “rolling starts.” A public address system will be in place for spectators, since the races will take place at the race course’s final 1,500 meters.

The Tigers, who received votes in the preseason CRCA poll released Wednesday, opened their spring season in fine fashion last Saturday on Lake Hartwell. Clemson won all five events in a dual regatta with Eastern Michigan. In fact, the Eagles only finished ahead of a Tiger boat once the entire competition.

The Tigers return to the water on Saturday, March 19 to play host to three schools in the Clemson Challenge on Lake Hartwell. Competing against Clemson in the Solid Orange event will be Indiana, Purdue, and Marist.
