Miller, Shaffer Receive Accolades From ABCA

Brad Miller was named a First-Team All-American by the American Baseball Coaches Association at shortstop, announced Thursday. The Windermere, FL native is Clemson’s first first-team All-American by ABCA since 2005 (Kris Harvey). The junior also received first-team All-Atlantic Region honors from ABCA.

Miller, the 2011 ACC Player-of-the-Year, leads the ACC in batting average (.395) and on-base percentage (.498). He also totaled 11 doubles, three triples, five homers, 50 RBIs, 53 runs, and 21 stolen bases in 56 games (54 starts). He was drafted in the second round by the Seattle Mariners as well.

Sophomore first-baseman Richie Shaffer was named a second-team All-Atlantic Region selection by ABCA. The Charlotte, NC native led or tied for the 2011 team lead in games (63), runs (62), homers (13), RBIs (55), total bases (128), slugging percentage (.577), and walks (44). He also hit .315 with 15 doubles, two triples, and eight steals.
