Fennell Completes Play in Croatia With USA Junior National Team

PULA, Croatia – Clemson sophomore volleyball player Brittany Fennell concluded play at the European Global Volleyball Challenge with the USA A2 Junior National team. The team finished fifth overall, defeating SCVA Red from Southern California in the fifth-place game.

The team breezed trough the first two days, winning all six best-of-three matches and only dropping three sets on its way to advancing as the second overall seed in the Brijuni playoff division.

The team was matched up against CSU Targu Mures (Romania) in the quarterfinals, a team they had beaten the previous evening, 2-1. The Romanian Team swept Fennell’s team 3-0 in the round, 25-13, 26-24, and 25-19 to advance to the semis.

“It was a great experience that I loved and would do all over again. The Junior A2 National Team had the second best record and although we did not make it to the finals, my focus was to getting better to play on the court at Clemson. This was my goal from the start and I feel like this tour has helped make me be a better, smarter player and I can put that to use at Clemson.”

The USA A2 team swept the SCVA Red team, 3-0 (25-22, 25-23, 25-18) to place fifth overall in the tournament. The team’s full results are below.

“Clemson prepared me for this tour because it was on the college playing level,” said Fennell. “They treated us like adults, just like Coach Hoover does, so I felt that I had an advantage.
