Clemson Volleyball Defeated By Wake Forest, 3-1, On Friday Night

WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Clemson volleyball team fell to the Wake Forest Demon Deacons by a score of 3-1 on Friday night. The Tigers forced a fourth game after being down 2-0 but were unable to pull out the victory. Wake Forest improved to 12-9 overall and 5-7 in ACC matches with the win, while Clemson dropped to 9-12 and 4-9 against conference opponents.

Brittany Ross led the Tigers with 16 kills and Anna Vallinch tallied 23 defensive saves. Wake Forest’s Lauren Peterson led all hitters with 23 kills while Jessica Furlong added 22.

The Demon Deacons took an early lead in the first game before Clemson managed to tie the score at 17 apiece. The score was knotted again at 22-22. The Tigers went ahead 23-22 but Wake Forest scored the final eight points to claim the game, 30-23. In game two, the Demon Deacons again held an early advantage, as they led 13-9. Wake Forest then increased the gap to 20-12 and held on for a 30-22 win.

The teams traded the first six points of the third game due to a handful of service errors by both schools. Clemson pulled ahead at 15-13 and widened the gap to 19-14. However, Wake Forest mounted a comeback to tie the score at 23 all. The Demon Deacons then took the lead at 25-24. The game saw its 14th tie score at 26-26 and then its 15th moments later at 27 all. The Tigers then scored the final three points to post the 30-27 victory and force a fourth game. Wake Forest then posted the victory with a 30-8 decision in the fourth game.

The Tigers return to Jervey Gym for the Nov. 4-5 weekend. Clemson will face Florida State at 6:00 PM, a change from the originally scheduled time, on Friday and will then play host to Miami on Saturday at 5:30 PM.
