April 22, 2001

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. –

Clemson’s women’s rowing team captured the Grand Final of the Varsity 8 and the Junior Varsity 8 races at the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships in Oak Ridge, Tenn. on Sunday. The performance should enhance Clemson’s national ranking. Susie Lueck’s Lady Tigers are in their third season, but are already ranked 17th in the nation in the latest poll.

This was the final regatta for the Lady Tigers prior to next weekend’s ACC Regatta, which will be held at Clemson on Lake Hartwell on Friday and Saturday.

Clemson won the Varsity 8 race in a time of 7:02.04, outdistancing Miami (FL), who finished second with a time of 7:04.89. Clemson’s victorious Varsity 8 team included Amy Fox (stroke), Katherine Sloan (7th seat), Farrell Finstad (6th seat), Lauren Henne (5th seat), Kathy Sickinger (4th seat), Lucy Doolittle (3rd seat), Heidi Robillard (2nd seat), Lisa Mischley (1st seat) and Gail Cadorniga (coxswain). Henne and Cadorniga are the only seniors who competed in that boat.

Clemson was also victorious in the Grand Final of the Junior Varsity 8. The Tigers recorded a time of 7:02.89, a strong eight seconds in front of second place Tennessee, who had a time of 7:10.60.

Clemson finished third in the Novice 8 Grand Final with a time of 8:19.80. North Carolina won that event and Duke was second.

The Lady Tigers won the Petite Final of the Varsity 4 competition, defeating NC State by nearly five seconds. Clemson’s Novice 4 boat finished fourth with a time of 8:40.43.
