Baseball Recruiting Class Rates No. 4 In Nation

CLEMSON, S.C. — Clemson’s 1999 baseball recruiting class is rated fourth-best in the country according to Collegiate Baseball newspaper in its annual compilation. Only perennial powers Southern California, Florida, and Texas had higher-ranked classes. The top-25 ranking is the Tigers’ seventh in as many years under Head Coach Jack Leggett and Recruiting Coordinator Tim Corbin.

Among the incoming players is infielder Jeff Baker, a fourth-round pick by the Cleveland Indians from Woodbridge, VA, and Jarrod Schmidt, a 23rd-round selection by the Florida Marlins from Marietta, GA. In all, the Tigers brought in 13 freshmen, two junior college players, and one transfer among its scholarship newcomers.
