Tigers Impress on Final Day of Cardinal Invite, Register Two First-Place Finishes

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. — Clemson finished the weekend off strong, once again competing in the 1V8+, 2V8+, 3V8+ and 1V4+ heats, highlighted by first-place finishes in the V8 and 2V8 heat. 

The Tigers began the morning in the V8+ race, clocking in at 6:29.368 for a first-place finish, defeating Wisconsin, Louisville and Tulsa before the V4 placed third at 7:23.934. 

The 2V8 was hungry for a win of their own, taking first place in their heat with a time of 6:39.230, beating Wisconsin, Louisville and Tulsa right before the 3V8 finished second, clocking in at 7:07.853.

“We challenged the team last night at dinner to show what we are willing to do to fight for our goals,” says Head Coach Stephen Frazier Wong. “I am so proud of how we responded; I asked them to show our Clemson Grit and wow, did they get gritty.”

“We had a really great weekend across all the boats,” says senior Meghan McLean. “I feel like we really showed our perseverance and resilience through the races. Really looking forward to the rest of the season!” Senior Chloe O’Brien also gave her comments on the weekend by saying, “it was a great weekend! I’m really proud of the grit our team showed, and it’s so exciting to see all of the hard work we put into training translate into the races. This is just the starting point for us, and I can’t wait to get back to practice to keep the momentum going. It was the best feeling to end the weekend with a win. It’s time to get back to work and chase more of those moments!”
