Women’s Tennis Defeats NC State

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson women’s tennis team, ranked 35th nationally, defeated NC State 8-1 Saturday afternoon to open the ACC season at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center in Clemson. The win improves the Tigers’ record to 9-3 overall, 1-0 ACC.

Clemson sophomore Carmina Giraldo, ranked 18th nationally, defeated Francie Barragan 6-0, 6-2 at flight one, and Tiger senior Cath Galvin defeated Loni Worsley 6-1, 6-7, 6-2 at number two singles. Tiger freshman Renata Brio took a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Brie Glover at flight three, and Clemson rookie Laurence Jayet beat Kristen Nicholls 1-6, 6-1, 6-1 at flight four. NC State’s Myrna Bawono defeated freshman Anna Savitskaya 2-6, 6-0, 6-4 at flight five for the Wolfpack’s lone point of the day, while Clemson junior Christina Oldock beat Landis Strader 6-0, 6-0 at number six singles.

In doubles action, the Tigers swept the Wolfpack. Giraldo and Galvin teamed up to beat Glover and Bawono 8-5 at flight one, and Jayet and Brito defeated Barragan and Worsley 8-4 at flight two. Savitskaya and junior Cinny Clausen defeated Nicholls and Strader 8-6 at flight three.

Clemson will play host to Wake Forest on Sunday at noon.
