Old Dominion Downs Clemson, 4-3

Clemson, SC – Old Dominion won four of six singles matches and went on to defeat Clemson 4-3 in women’s college tennis Friday afternoon at Clemson’s Hoke Sloan Tennis Center. The Lady Tigers fell to 3-5 for the season. They will play host to Charlotte at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center Saturday afternoon at 12:00 Noon.

Clemson was led by Ioana Paun and Anna Stiglic, who both won singles matches. Paun increased her record to 5-3 for the season with a dominating 6-1, 6-0 victory over Julia Sotiriu at the number-five singles. Stiglic defeated Patricia Araujo at number-six singles in consecutive sets, 6-3, 6-1.

Clemson did not gain a victory at the first four singles matches. Two of the contests went to three sets. At the number-one singles, Old Dominion’s Nataly Cahana defeated Clemson’s Alix Lacelarie, 6-4, 5-7, 6-3. Lacelarie fell to 13-9 for the season with the loss. Mily Kannarkat of Old Dominion defeated Milena Stanoycheva 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 at number-four singles in the other three-set match.

Clemson won the doubles point by winning at number-one and number-two doubles. Clemson’s number-one team of Laurence Jayet and Alix Lacelarie defeated Cahana and Radeljevic 8-4. Clemson’s top doubles team improved its overall record to 10-6 for the season with the victory.
